Sonic Youth played a few shows in 2008 celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the release of DAYDREAM NATION by playing the album in it's entirety from beginning to end. I haven't found any soundboard recordings from this tour yet but here is a nice digital audience recording. I would give this one a B (on the A-F scale). These New Puritans

These New Puritans are a British art rock band from the Southend-on-Sea area. The group consists of Jack Barnett (songwriter, producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist), his twin brother George Barnett (drums, loops), Thomas Hein (bass guitar, sampler, drums), and Sophie Sleigh-Johnson (keyboards, sampler). They have recorded two albums, Beat Pyramid, released in 2008, and Hidden, released in 2010.In a 2008 interview, Jack Barnett said that hip hop ensemble Wu-Tang Clan, especially member RZA, influenced the first album Beat Pyramid. Other inspirations include the electronic music of Aphex Twin and the cartoon series The Smurfs. At the time, Artrocker described These New Puritans as sounding like "Sheffield and Berlin synths, '90s alt rock Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo drones, Underworld beats; and all in the most contemporary of contexts". US premiere of Universalove featuring live accompaniment by Naked Lunch! Special sneak preview screening! CIMMfest 2010 kicks off with a William S. Burroughs-themed night of film and music. First up is Austrian band Naked Lunch, who will accompany the US premiere of Thomas Wolschitzs 2008 film Universalove with the songs they built the film around. Next up is a special, but secret, screening of a documentary featuring Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Sonic Youth, Jello Biafra, Grant Hart and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, followed by Q & A with the director. Vessel – Tales of a memento island (42 Records/24 – 2010)

I Vessel sono Alessandra Gismondi (già con Pitch e Schonwald), Corrado Nuccini ed Emanuele Reverberi (entrambi Giardini di Mirò). Il loro è un progetto abbastanza ambizioso: “Tales Of A Memento Island” è infatti il primo di una serie di tre EP che usciranno in questo 2010, sui temi del ricordo, del desiderio e della rinascita. Come si può capire fin dal titolo, in questo caso si parla di ricordi. Quali ricordi? Soprattutto degli anni ’90, con sonorità che si ricollegano più o meno direttamente a My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive e Ride e ancor di più ai Jesus & Mary Chain, oltre che con un paio di canzoni legate direttamente all’immaginario di quel decennio. “Ninety’s Lover” è infatti un perfetto e languido duetto shoegaze che cita, tra gli altri, Pavement e Sonic Youth, mentre “Memento List” è una vera e propria lista di elementi, musicali e non, degli ultimi anni del millennio scorso, in cui trovano posto le Babes In Toyland, Ayrton Senna, la Playstation e

Kim Gordon's New Multimedia Artist’s Book 'Performing/Guzzling'…

Art Info: Fans beware: The darkness of the auditorium hasn’t protected you from the critical eye of Kim Gordon. Gordon, the vocalist, bassist, and guitarist for the indie rock band Sonic Youth, who also has a solid reputation as a visual artist, has been watching those watching her. What she sees when looking at her audience while performing is the basis for her hardcover multimedia artist’s book, Performing/Guzzling. The volume presents a portfolio of her painting and photos offering visions of her experience onstage, punctuated by her writing and lyrics, as well as by short essays by the artist, musician, and critic Jutta Koether and the New Yorker staff writer Hilton Als. The first 3,000 copies even include a signed print by Gordon. The Ruby Tailights - High & Low

Where once stood Sunbear there then crouched the Ruby Tailights. The worrying word on the streets of Dublin are that the latter have ceased to exist. Would seem a thorough shame given the tunes that they have cooped up on their hard drives (with ‘High & Low’ being a prime example). They’ll probably hate me for making this public but this is just an attempt from a fan to get it in their thick skulls that a world without them is far less tempting. ‘High & Low’ is quite obviously still in a state of demo undress but boy is it appealing. It takes a real talent to cast such a melodic shadow and the Rubies still have it spades years after they were lauded from a stage by none other than Mr Sonic Youth. I can see a facebook group being formed as I write this, or at the very least a virtual punch from Martin.
