Mardi Gras | 2.12-2.16 | New Orleans
c/o Jambase By: B. Getz Mardi Gras :: 02.12-02.16 | :: New Orleans, LA Trombone Shorty :: Mardi GrasBy Dino Perrucci Descending on New Orleans five days after the Saints' enormous Super Bowl victory, we encountered a city boiling with elation. Despite the frigid temperatures, this city was as hot as ever, with deafening chants of "Who Dat?" reverberating night and day, bouncing off walls of venues, up and down parade routes, at dinner tables and tailgates. I have literally never seen a city so jacked up, and it was as infectious as 'twas intoxicating. By day we walked various parade routes, first the Krewe of Morpheus and Krewe of Muses, enjoying the Cameltoe Steppers and Miss Karina's Bearded Oysters, amongst others. For most parades we rolled uptown to watch on St. Charles and Napoleon Streets, though Saturday we started in Lakeview, rolling with Krewe of Endymion and feting Saints owner/Grand Marshall Tom Benson and Head Coach Sean Payton like Crescent monarchs, with Trombo

Saturday Night / Etihad Stadium$1.22 vs. $4.35After a couple of Saints players came out and said that the NAB cup means nothing to them and will not heal wounds over their premiership loss to Geelong last year you would think that they are not going to win this week. The real story is that the Saints are a great football team and seem to win even when they are missing key players and not playing terribly well. The last two weeks are examples of that. The Saints are resting players who played in the Grand Final last year and are huge names; Riewoldt and Goddard. Even with those players out Fremantle will be no match for the Saints playing at their favorite venue. Players to watch for St KildaJustin Koschitzke – In the absence of Roo the other big forward at the Saints will have to step up.Ben McEvoy – McEvoy has been somewhat of a revelation in the pre-season. He tackles a lot for a big man and can be damaging in front of goal.Lenny Hayes – 20 touches and 5 tackles last week agai

Saturday night Kim Kardashian celebrated the launch of her new fragrance at TAO Las Vegas. Kim arrived with her mom Kris Jenner, KISS-FM’s Ellen K and Jonathan Cheban and Simon Huck from SPINdustry, the new E! special Kim produced. After strutting down the carpet in black Christian Louboutin’s, Kim and the group enjoyed Asian specialties in the restaurant before heading up to a VIP table on the dance floor. DJ Vice announced Kim’s arrival and she was greeted by screaming fans who clamored to get close to her while a neighboring VIP table sent over a bottle of Cristal. After being presented with a cake in the shape of her perfume bottle by Gimme Some Sugar, the always gracious star headed to the dance floor where she met and took pictures with fans. Pierre Thomas and Lance Moore who play for the New Orleans Saints with Kim’s beau Reggie Bush stopped by the table to congratulate her on the launch of her perfume. She danced on the catwalk to the sounds of DJ Vice and even twe

2 Sundays ago, I went to my very first Super Bowl. Last Sunday (i.e. 2 days ago) I went to my very first NBA All-Star game. Yes, I said it ~ "VERY FIRST". Some people find that surprising. Sure, I've been to Jam Sessions and All-Star Saturday night for the 3 Point and Slam Dunk contests... But, I've never made it to the actual All-Star game ~ until this year.
This year's Super Bowl was historic. The Saints won it all in their 44th year as a franchise in Super Bowl XLIV (i.e. the 44th Super Bowl for those of you that are Roman numericallly challenged). This year's NBA All-Star game was also historic. It was slated to draw a world record in attendance for a basketball game, since it was being played in the New Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
New Guinness Book of World Records achievement in attendance for a basketball game
I was thrilled to be going to the game, even though I'd been to the new stadium earlier this year

An interesting thing was said to me last Saturday night. "The Saints deserve to win the Super Bowl." My response was, "hmmph, why?" "They just do," was the super logical response. I wanted to say, "Why? Because their city got hit with a hurricane a few years ago and it will make them feel better?" Seriously??? So when Haiti rebuilds the island, are they gonna deserve to win the Olympics or the Miss Universe Pageant? Ummm, I don't think that will fly with the other countries competing. This leads me to discuss the word "deserve". So, of course I had to consult my handy-dandy dictionary to review the "proper" definition of the word. Well... the real definition just seems different than the context applied by some people in modern day vernacular. Most people seem to use the word "deserve" in a manner that does not mesh with the "real" definition. It used to mean that when you worked hard, you rated a reward.&nbs

Ramblings Post #84Once year, man and boy find the culmination of the greatest sport a spectacle unto itself. It is glory on the gridiron, and fury on the soul as the athletes clash and realize that this is the championship and reasons for standing on the sidelines and holding one's self in abeyance mean little. As the old saying goes, "Pain heals, chicks dig scars, glory lasts forever." I didn't watch most of the Superbowl. I'll be honest, my team wasn't in it and I was tired of hearing Saints fans scream "Who dat?" and so it wasn't at the top of my list of great things that had to be done. But I'd studied Friday night (before I fell asleep with the book open) and Saturday - reading for two classes done - and only because I'd left my outlines on the printer at work did I actually have a reason to stop. So, armed with my donation liquor I was ready to go see some people whom I didn't work with or go to class with - which constitutes the current sum total of who I see seven days out of

Last Saturday night the Gasparilla night parade, which echoes smaller Mardi Gras parades, cruised down 7th Avenue in Ybor City. The city runs the parade very well. Unlike most Mardi Gras parades, this one kept moving. There were no long breaks between floats like the ones common when watching super krewes in New Orleans. Crowd watching was spectacular as Tampanians are even more aggressive about bead snatching than most Mardi Gras parade goers. For all the fun I had at the night parade, watching the Saints pull off a spectacular Super Bowl victory was the best time I had all weekend. I posted an update, and added a graphic to the entry I wrote after the Saints won the NFC Championship to reflect their newest achievement. The Vince Lombardi trophy has never looked better than it did in Drew Brees' hands on Sunday night. In other news, a huge tree limb fell across my street last night. My friends and I ran out and stuck bright reflective tape to the branch so that anyone coming up

Last weekend may have been about the Saints and the Colts, but Jets heartthrob Mark Sanchez still managed to steal one show in Miami. Our snowbird spy says the quarterback had lots of ladies fawning over him at a Maxim bash at the Raleigh Hotel on Saturday, but Sanchez had eyes for only one gal: "The Hills" star Kristin Cavallari."He was definitely all about Kristin," the source dishes. "They even left together at the end of the night."~ Gatecrasher @ nydailynews.com

Kim’s blush-colored, tight-fitting tank dress weakened opponents.
Think Kim Kardashian stayed casual all weekend for boyfriend Reggie Bush’s Super Bowl win? Come on, you know Kimmy K. better than that. She wasn’t all blazer and jeans, opting for a Saturday evening get-down getup that we can only imagine had Reggie Bush rushing to retire for the night.

I didn’t watch football last weekend. Sounds pretty un-American. I just don’t much like football and I’m finding that the older I get, the less I enjoy watching television in general. So the chances that you’ll catch me watching something on television that I don’t particularly like anyway are pretty darn remote. But still, my hat’s off to all professional football players, I admire their fortitude, athletic skill and sheer strength. And congratulations NO Saints – great game, great season!*********I went out for dinner with some friends last Saturday night, had two absolutely delicious French pear martinis during dinner. They knocked me on my very own butt. Didn’t even feel it coming. Not the outcome I would have selected for that evening, needless to say. Ix-nay on the artinis-may for moi, at least for the foreseeable future.*********I was driving home one evening last week behind a regional freight truck with the corporate slogan painted in a very stylish script alon
