I am currently watching a documentary on the history of China, and it said “but now, Contacts with Central Asia, Persia, and even Rome.” I believe it is referring to the Silk Roads. Anyone have any idea of when this was?
When did China begin trading and interacting with other countries?

1The Silk Road started during the Han Dynasty, but archeological findings pointed to earlier periods of evidences of trade before 1500 BC (with bones of caucasian man being excavated in China).
Han Dynasty’s trades with the West did affect the warfare of the Romans, as records pointed out to an expedition of Han (36 BC) defeating the Roman legions. The Hans used crossbows which were able to penetrate through Roman’s shield and armour.

2Around the 12th century, after that China began… stop being so great. Contact with the West rally hindered Chinese innovation, too much negative influence from the West.
