We just moved from US and wanted to get medical and preferably dental coverage for hospitals anywhere in India. I understand that in India you are only paid for 24 hours/overnight stay in hospitals but not for diagnostics or routine checkups. Any recommendations?
In India the public sector and private general insurance companies are offering Mediclaim and other Health-care policies. These policies offer only Hospitalisation benefits, ie, the policy holder has to take treatment as in-patient in the hospital or nursing home for a minimum period of 24 hours. However, for certain diseases, this condition is relaxed, like for eye treatment or dental treatment. The patient has to be admitted in the hospital and then to be discharged and then all the medical expenses including diagnostics are payable under these policies.
But if the treatment is taken as OP (Outpatient) and only consultation is done, these expenses are not payable under the Health insurance policies. Expenses for routine medical checkups are also not payable. As regards Cash Less treatment, almost all public sector general insurance companies are offering this facility through IRDA licensed Third Party Administrators (TPAs) in their approved hospitals, which include all major corporate hospitals. If there is no approved hospital in your area, you can pay the hospital bills and then submit these bills for reimbursement to the insurance companies or TPAs.
There are some agents who can convey the information and i am giving the link for the site below.
