Bush, with his throwing his weight around, refusal to join in international efforts, and starting an unjustified war, has pretty much shot the reputation of America as the “leader and inspiration of the free world”.
McCain won’t restore it. Obama will. How much is that worth to us in the modern interdependent world?
The best way to restore things with the rest of the world is to just ask what they want and then tell them to kiss our BUTTS.
If you really want the rest of the world to respect us get things like Jerry Springer, Maury, Dr. Phil , Oprah and The View off TV. All those shows do is show the rest of the world what we are becoming. A LIBERAL DO ANYTHING YOU WANT NATION.
You can start with CNN and NBC
The question of America’s reputation is as bias as the liberal vs conservative agendas. You claim McCain won’t restore it but yet I heard Obama just speak to the Iraeli lobby and thus won’t change a thing – hand them 30 billion or so in foreign aid and stand by them still (which I don’t oppose but its actually no change in policy).
Liberals suggest we win a “reputation” by giving money out. I remember every time Clinton had a bad day in the media he rolled out the leader of a foreign nation for a white house photo op; but what was not reported was that hand out that went with the photo op in foreign aid. If having a “good” reputation means pleasing the leftist media and dictators of the world – forget it – its not worth a dime.
Please dear friend what great reputation did the American’s ever have?, and with what continent on the face of this earth?
name one for me? or was it always with fear tactics they were given much face value respect yet ridiculed amongst ever nation in private which is even more damaging to a nation.
the reputation you speak &asked about restoring seems to have been shown to never have been worth much from the beginning of the Americans time of existence
there was never love for the Americas only tolerance due to the lack of love . History shall always speak for itself and still does concerning the northern continent – remember slavery and the Indians incident then you shall draw a balance conclusion. how sad history is for the American the future shall change for the good but not for saving nor restoring a reputation of one damaging outcome of the American but for the people the good of man and the good for man kind I believe in goodness not reputations.
you saw how well that worked for us under Jimmy Carter, Iran walked all over us with hostages held 444 days. they were beaten and suffered actual torture.
handing over America to the UN or the third world tyrants won’t make us popular. it will make us the butt of their jokes.
i lived through that one with Carter. i don’t want to repeat the past.
Obama can’t say anything to Iran and our enemies that will make them love us…at least with a strong defence, they will respect us and think twice before attacking.
why do you think that they all support Obama…they know that weaking our military, and our defences will benefit them.
I don’t know how to put a measureable amount on what it is worth but besides all the political reasons it is very important. I want to be one with people around the world. I want to travel. I want to feel welcomed by others & be free to go where I want to go. We don’t need more discrimination in the world it is about time we are more highly evolved. I know Obama will straighten out all that the cons. have messed up.The world is already anticipating the goodness that Obama’s election will bring along with the intelligent, decent people who are voting for him.
Maybe worth about the $8 that I spent for lunch yesterday.
Maybe you didn’t notice that in the last 2 years the people of Germany and France elected pro-America and pro-Bush leaders. Evidently America has a better reputation than you Bush-haters like to believe and Obama wants to CHANGE our good reputation.
Obama even said kids with asthma should be given breathalyzers. I heard him say it. Funny how you liberals complain about Bush prosecuting terrorists yet your hero wants to treat sick American kids like criminals.
i think its relatively important. not the number 1 thing on my mind currently since the war, economy, and health care factor are more important at this point.
we, as citizens of not only the usa, but the world, have a job to keep things on an even keel with the rest of the world. we are not the only people in the world. it does not revolve around us. we are not in a horrible economical or social situation in relation to the rest of the world.
Not much. It is only extremely liberal democrats who are concerned what leftist countries think of America.
Presidents need to have a backbone. If they don’t then they are another Jimmy Carter.
Most of the world needs America, not the reverse. If America’s economy sneezes then the rest of the world goes into recession. That is because America is extremely capitalistic, productive, and innovative.
I can tell you what it is not worth – our dignity and national security. Both will be forfeit if we elect someone who is completely ignorant and naive about foreign policy. This is why I cannot, in good conscience, vote for Obama.
That and I think McCain has a better shot of restoring American’s standing in the world than Bush did, and that is good enough for me.
Bush was never respected…some of the other presidents we have had were…Reagan, JFK etc.
You have to earn respect and even when the French stated “we were all americans”, and W had the world by the balls, he couldn’t or chose not to negotiate… and I think it is that inflexibility that has cost the US its reputation. And with that loss of reputation, there is a loss of buisness opportunities in foreign markets for US corps etc so it does hurt us…
That is such crap! France and the rest of Europe would have contempt for us no matter what, out of envy. The middle east would hate us because of islam. And North Korea hates everyone. Japan gets along great with us, and so does Taiwan, which pisses off China. China needs to get over that. Anyway, you’re barking up the wrong tree. You can’t please every nation on earth, and you shouldn’t try to, because some of them are pleased with tyranny (I’m looking at you Iran and N. Korea). Yours is a fool’s errand in the first place.
Are you am american or a member of starfleet? As an american, I really don’t care about the rest of the barbarians, As long as they need us, we will get along just fine, there were be plenty of time to kiss their a&& when they don’t need us anymore.
We consume a fifth of the worlds resources and have the lowest savings rate in the world. We will be groveling soon enough, till then screw them.
Bush took advantage of an opportunity offered by a revenge-hungry salivating public. We The People are the real god of death, that’s why arguments about “what Bush did” aren’t gonna cut it with people abroad. It was US, son, it was US, and they’re not gonna forget it, or trust us one bit, anytime soon. Would you?
It’s worth 35 cents at best.
Our enemies would love us to roll over and die. So would our greedier allies.
World politics works that way. The British Empire & the Roman Empire were treated by all other countries with the same disdain. It’s part of being the big dog on the block.
It’s not worth much.
As long as America is THE Superpower, the rest of the world will envy us.
Worrying about what others think of you is a very immature exercise in futility.
What difference does it make? We have bailed out so many countries whenever they need money or troops to help save them from a tyrant(Hitler). We should never have gone to Iraq but the EU and others always expects the US to bail them out.
What makes you think obama will do anything to restore our reputation.
If he was a real progressive the leadership would have eliminated him politically by now.
Obama will save us in the eyes of the world….
….while flushig our freedoms and way of life down the toilet
I dont think its worth anything for the price
we need international cooperation in order to run the country
since bush took over almost every nation in the world doesn’t like us except UK,Saudi
I think a change in terms of a democratic rule will be good for the country, it might bring back the prestige back to our country
