India is a corrupt country. Right from peon to PM or CM, everyone is corrupt. Be it Income Tax Office or Police, nothing works without bribe.
Under these circumstance, how can an honest person live in such a country especially when someone left India at the age of twenty one and has been outside for more than 35 years? The quality of government does affect your day to day life.
Do you see Election 2009 will change the situation?

2India and Pakistan are two of the most corrupt countries outside of Africa. who the hell would want to live there, only those that are in positions of Power whether it be a local official or a government minister.
And those that cannot get out because they are so Poor.
In India and Pakistan the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
At least in this country we have a welfare system for the poor, unemployed, and the two million dossers and junkies and unmarried mothers that have never worked in their lives.
And I do not include the two million Decent People that are genuinely unemployed because of this governments policies over the last twelve years.

3thats such a general statement. it’s like saying all americans for obese.
yes, many are obese but not everysingle person. india is, i admit, a corrupt country. not everyone is corrupt, though. there are parts of india that are corruption-free jsut like in other countries.
how does an honest person live there? who says u cant live in a corrupt country and change it? have u ever tried it? if they take up an honest job like computer engeneerign or psychology or medical doctor (which a large part of the population does) it’s possible to be uncorrupt.
the majority of corrupt ppl in india are people directly in government like police officers, prime ministers, and diff political parties.
no, i don’t think an election can change anything. onyl an honest person can change corruption- only they can decide that they will not allow bribes to interfere
and india is changing. corruption rate has been going down and it is turning into a world power.
go india!

4Corruption is not in the system of governance but it is in the people running the government. In other way corruption is surviving because
the common man accepts it. If a police officer asks for bribe and will leave us for a very small amount than most of us will give him the bribe.
If all of us will come against corruption and will stop giving bribe than how can corruption occur? so if we really want to stop it than we will have to perform a collective action. so remember, you are living in a corrupt nation because you accepted it and you did not complained about it.

5Yes, You r absolutely right. But you know we are basically Hippocrates. We want only ‘others’ to practice honesty, not self. We always try short cut and easy methods for short term gains not withstanding how it comes. We actually encourage corrupt practices and can not take little pains. Yes, its very difficult but if you try with little patience you may overcome corrupts and corruption as well. I have got some success with this formula.

6Try to surround yourself with a community of honest good people and once in a while, make yourselves heard (as in public protests). I know it’s hard to vote someone good in when it’s usually one crappy politician vs another, with most loyal to lobby/bribe groups, but keep trying.

7Just as I live in a corrupt U.S.A. We live where we are born in most cases. I live a happy life knowing the rich rule my country and that our government is run by money,as is every thing else including religion. You just accept it as a way of life. We are here but a short time anyway.
