What is it going to take to bring America back to conservatism? What is it going to take to bring America back into the belief of the Free Market and little government oversight of the private sector? What is it going to take to bring America back into prosperity like it used to be under Ronald Reagan?
A change in the reality of the baser aspects of human nature?
Unless you have been hiding under a rock or drinking lots of bong water you should be aware of what people are capable of doing in the financial sector if left to their own devices. First we had waves of companies like Enron committing fraud facilitated by lack of government oversight. Now we have banks failing due to complete lack of responsible financial management that was enabled by lack of government oversight. That does not even take into account all the outright fraud of investment funds that has now come to light with Madoff and his ilk.
Like kids in a candy store and yet some people still think that they should be left unsupervised. Simply amazing.
Praising a presidential administration for an era of prosperity is kind of like praising Ronald McDonald because you like your happy meal. You can point to the huge era of prosperity we had under Clinton as well. It doesn’t mean anything.
You mean you didn’t know that Reagan, Bush the Smarter and Bush the dumber actually INCREASED the US Government? I think you need to do a little more homework.
Bush the Dumber increased the Fed more so than any other Prez, even a Democrat.
Why in the World would anyone in their right mind want to go back to the crappy times we’ve seen under every GOP prez since Reagan? Everyone complains how crappy things were under Carter, so why don’t you bother to be honest and admit they were just as bad (or very close) to that under Reagan (during his 2nd term), Bush the Smarter and Bush the Dumber?
Since Reagan, the best this economy has ever been was under Clinton. Problem is you GOPers have a hardon for Clinton and thus you can’t give him any credit whatsoever. Stop being hypocrites and grow up.
You might want to check that Reagan stuff at the door, the man had great PR and real nice way about him, but he wasn’t any friend to the common man.
What its going to take is more of the amnesia that we’ve seen, not just about life under Reagan, which wasn’t any great picnic, but what minimal oversight did to the private sector. They ran themselves into the ground and need public money to get them out of their ‘bad choices’. Its going to be a long time before the pensioners of Enron, or Bernie Madoffs investors, or the people who owned ’safe blue chip’ forget that they lost their money. Lets be honest, conservatives when they got power weren’t very conservative at all.
There is NOTHING that will bring back the corruption and greed of the Reagan years. We know better now ! We wont get fooled again ! Reagan BORROWED to make it feel like prosperity, but the bill has come due, and now you’re bitching about paying the price for false prosperity. Give me a line of credit for hundreds of billions, and I’ll make everyone feel OK for a few years. If we had taken our economic ‘medicine’ in 1982, this crash would not be happening ! Trickle Down economics turned out to be just WARM and YELLOW !
During the Ronald Reagan years their was not prosperity…just a myth that there was because a “few” people became rich. In fact our current trouble today is because of Reaganomics. In fact Reaganomics is like poor medicine…if someone takes painkillers to stop feeling pain, that is fine, but if the underlying problem causing the pain is not dealt with then it will just get worse…like today’s economy.
Where you even alive when Reagan was president?
so, you want to scrap the stimulus plan, and give big tax cuts to corporations like GM, AIG, Bank of America, Exxon, and then let the free market work itself out. Of course the companies will take the money and reinvest it, and provide lots of jobs. just like they did with the Stimulus money that George Bush gave them.
OK, that sounds like a great plan.
A strong leader. So far, the conservative movement does not have one. If Rush Limbaugh is the leader of the conservative movement, conservatism is in big trouble. He can be the mouthpiece for it, but not the leader. He has no ability to afflict change. He is a voice in the wilderness. A rather loud and popular voice, but a voice with no clout.
“What is it going to take to bring America back into prosperity like it used to be under Ronald Reagan?”
Ron was a neocon. He increased the deficit and raised taxes. Also, his first term was not a great economic time in the US. If you look at the historical S&P chart you will see that.
Another Regan idiot that watches FOX news and believes in the propaganda spewed at him like projectile vomit.
Until Obama, who is cleaning up the mess up the worst president in the histopry of the USA (FACT), you saw the greatest gains in gov’t spending under Regan, and both Bush’s. Just look it up you Lemming…then follow O’riely, Limbaugh, Hannity, and all the other venomous bottom feedin TALK SHOW HOSTS off the cliff !
A disaster.
The bursting Wall Street bubble spurred savings. 9/11 made America patriotic again. And, when all this spending implodes on itself, people will swing back to conservatism.
Politics are cyclical, and we are on the liberal precipice. Brace yourselves.
I think conservatives opening up their minds & learning that liberals are not all the things they have been told they are. If they would just do the research rather than listen to the divisiveness they get from Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Hannity, Coulter. This people are lying I don’t even know what a conservative believes in. When I hear them say family values & see they have the same problems as everyone else I don’t understand why they think they are different from liberals. I am 50 years old & have been married to the same man since I was 17. I believe in being conservative with money & bought a house at age 19 & had it paid off by age 22. No one I know worked as hard as we did. Yet we keep hearing that liberals are lazy & on welfare. If conservatives are for real about believing all this BS then what is happening is that people from their party are seeing how stupid these comments are & what lies they are so they are going to the democratic party. I could go on & one about all the lies that conservatives believe such as dems being socialist. Dems are different from cons in that they don’t push their religious beliefs but usually believe in loving they neighbor as thyself This means you don’t go to war or fight with people but seek understanding & unity. So first the conservatives have to write a mission statement & explain what that really means & how they are different that liberals & be open for debate So they can be told that what they believe is not different They are letting the media believe lies cause there is no game if they are not polarized. We could be a great country. I have hundreds of people I know who are liberals & just about 20 republicans The dems can run a nice country but the reps would talk about each person in a negative way They are too angry all the time
Turning off Rush Limbaugh would be a start.
Republicans look as desperate as John McCain did during the campaign. They’re not offering any viable solutions and their arguments border on the ridiculous. They care only about what’s best for the republican party and how to get reelected and not what’s best for the American people. Most Americans see through the conservative rhetoric.
Taking into account the fact that the country is now and has been for the past 5 years or so, under the control of liberals and is headed directly to a state of socialism, I don’t believe it will ever happen. Sad to see a great nation such as ours going down the tubes so quickly.
no one in the Republican party has this philosophy except for Ron Paul. but Republicans dont like him because he believes the US military should get out of foreign countries and police the world.
real conservatism is dead. the Republican party is controlled by the neo-conservatives
More than likely a revolution. The left always talk about taking us back. My question is what is wrong with that? I would love to take us back to the principles we were founded on. And talk about taking us back, the left will take us back to England.
Yes. But I’m out here on the playground trying to pick a fight with Rush Limbaugh to fix things. What the hell more do you want from me? Oh, did I mention, I’m also trying to finance a brand new Lexus (national health care) to take your mind off our national bankruptcy. –Hussein
Obama is well under way to getting us there. About 6 more months should do it.
For David H.:
“Ron was a neocon. He increased the deficit and raised taxes. “”
Sounds like the spitting image of what obama is doing. So I assume you think obama is a neocon?
It is happening as we speak. Blue dog dem’s are finally seeing they have been screwed by the ultra left socialists and it will destroy our country.
Blue dog’s need to get re-elected, and the non union working people and Small Business people will only take so much.
well first you guys ned to trim off the crazy like palin, limbaugh, and……well pretty much every major face of the party and gain some respect for yourselves and then you may be able to bounce back
As soon asa the Obama lovers realize that socialism will fail in this country and once again they screwed up by putting a Democrat in the oval office. Hope it won’t be too late.
