1The calculation of child support is handled at the State level, not at the national level in the US. Although each state has its own rules, both incomes are generally taken into account. Some states include the family lifestyle prior to the split while others only take into account the poverty level. This often leads to significant disparity in the amounts of child support payable from one State to the next.

2I most States in USA there is a formula that takes into consideration both incomes, how many kids, how much time the kids spend with each parent.
The down side is if the woman quits her job she gets more money. If the man quits his job he goes to jail.

3Each state has its own rules and its own formula, based on income and on the number of kids. But yes, both incomes are generally taken into account. If one parent has remarried, the new spouse’s income is generally not counted.
